Try not to do the math in your head...

Today we went into the city for some shopping and to enjoy the sunshine. We started in Chelsea and wound our way through Marble Arch and Piccadilly Circus. I hunted for gifts and souvenirs, while Suzie shopped for some unique summer sandals. I was suffering a bit from the sticker shock, given that the exchange rate is roughly two dollars to the pound. The only price that really made me feel better was the price of Colman's English Mustard--in New York, a small (maybe 3 oz) jar is something like $5; in Waitrose in Chelsea (a swank grocery in an even swankier neighborhood), a large 6-8 oz jar is only 73p (as in pence), or roughly a buck-and-a-half. Bloody hell indeed.

After almost wearing ourselves out completely, we headed to Moro, a mediterranean-influenced restaurant that Suzie has been interested in visiting. She is a fan of their cookbooks and unique ingredient pairings. In fact, our favorite coffee place in New York, Abraco, uses Moro cookbook recipes for some of their cakes and cookies. The food was very good--after having several tapas, we basically shared our entrees, roast leg of lamb with lentils and carrots and seared sea bass with beets and fennel. Afterwards, we split a chocolate and apricot tart. A great meal, no two ways about it, but I must admit: after a long day of walking, I was quite happy to sit for a couple hours, and the stellar food was icing on the cake.

Not a lot of pictures from our day--we weren't really in tourist mode, and frankly didn't really think about it until much later. But enjoy the picture of our first black cab ride together, all of about four blocks from the Tube station to Moro.
